Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to common questions
Are my images uploaded to a server?+
No. Tracing runs entirely in your browser using canvas and ImageTracer. Files never leave your device.
What images work best?+
Logos, icons, line art, and high-contrast graphics vectorize well. Photos produce large approximate SVGs and are not photo-realistic.
What is the Detail slider?+
Higher detail traces finer edges and smaller shapes. Lower detail produces simpler paths and smaller SVG files.
What does Colors control?+
It limits how many colors are used in the vector output. Fewer colors simplify the SVG; more colors preserve gradients and shading.
What does Smoothing do?+
Applies a light blur before tracing to reduce noise and jagged edges. Use 0 for sharp pixel art; increase for noisy scans.
What format is the download?+
A standard .svg file you can open in Figma, Illustrator, Inkscape, or embed in web pages.
Is this tool free?+
Yes. 100% free with no signup required.
Can I vectorize transparent PNGs?+
Yes. Transparency is preserved where the tracer detects distinct color regions.
